She was born in the heat of early summer
To an unwed mom and a dad that was a runner
Placed in the system until a family could be named.
Five months she spent in foster care
Then a couple whose love was 'specially rare
Took her home and she was never the same.
She became a Daddy's girl
He couldn't wait to tell Nanny 'bout her little curls
She was a Daddy's girl
She loved her mom but he was her whole world
She was a Daddy's girl.
She showed them she was smart
She liked music, dance and art
But most of all she loved to make him proud
She could write and she could do math
And she could usually make him laugh
She also loved to perform in front of a crowd
She was a Daddy's girl
She loved when he'd watch her twirl
She was a Daddy's girl
His smile was her whole world
She was a Daddy's girl.
She grew up fast and found a man
She thought she loved and he asked for her hand
It was time she settled down.
She planned to become a pretty June bride
All she needed was Daddy by her side.
And at the back of the church he frowned.
She was a Daddy's girl
He said she looked like a princess
She was a Daddy's girl
He said she didn't have to do this
She was a Daddy's girl
She walked on down that aisle
And things were fine for awhile
They had two kids and bought a house
Then something went wrong
Before long he was gone
And she was left without a spouse
She was still a Daddy's girl
He didn't say I told you so
She was a Daddy's girl
He even told her to let the man go
She was a Daddy's girl
For more than forty years this man has been her anchor
He's loved her like crazy and been much more than a father
He's done everything he could do
To help her make it through
And he's made her a Daddy's girl
She's raising boys and needs his advice
She is a Daddy's girl
She never has to ask him twice
She is a Daddy's girl.
She'll always be a Daddy's girl.
