Every Man Has His Woman, Every Woman Her Man

by Mahesh Patel

So fair a face makes many creatures of fairest to weep

So fair a face makes many creatures of fairest to weep

And if I tend to praise thee more than enough,
More than Helena of Troy, for whose graces
Many noble souls their lives had laid
And many with tears had chided their fair faces,
I do not make thee a goddess in the eyes of the world!
And if I have hailed thee more than any,
Aye, more than sad Lucrece ravished on her own bed,
I have so because thee to me are so,
Though thou says thou are not worthy of their compare,
Thee are not the judge of thine beauty,
Nor true beauty is the appearance of the body only.
Therefore think me no youth of ill-manner,
Every man has his woman, every woman her man,
Thus I have praised thee as I have done sweet maiden.
