Flames
by Abbey (13 years old)
(Worthington, Ohio, USA)
Orange and red reflected in her eyes
A tear goes down her cheek
She takes her final breath
Then her final step
Into incinerating heat
One last cry
Slips her lips
But then silence falls
She rises out of the flames into the night
Her life taken too soon
All because of the flames,
She rises and cries
Out to the others
Not to listen
To the Nazis
That you were walking to your death
Inside the flames
You’ll never come out
To see the light again
But no one would listen
No matter how loud she cried
Then she left
To find her family,
Who also went into the flames
Who will be next
