Forgive and Forget

by Evan Stine

I was in love
You were in love
I gave you my heart
You gave me yours
You cherished mine and kept it well
I slowly ripped yours in half with reluctant,
shaking hands and tossed it back to you
It was an accident!
I didn't want to hurt you!
I just want you to forget me
I was a blade and you were hanging by a few threads,
many more connected before I arrived
and unwillingly sliced through them
It isn't your fault, it's mine
Because of my mistakes, you shouldn't forgive me.
You do, but I can't see why
After all, I can't forgive myself, and I can't forget you.
