I Am A Writer

I am a writer and I know it
Give me a pen and a piece of paper
and I'll show it.

Before the singer can sing it
or the actor can read it
I have to live it and dream it
write it down and mean it.

Long before it becomes a song, a poem,
a script, or a play.
Before it is criticized or praised in any way
It is I who decides what
it has to say.

My words may be sung, spoken, or
acted out by plenty.
They may be read aloud or quietly
by many.

Actors and singers who collect the
glory on balcony's and stages
couldn't do it without me
putting words on the pages.
