Today was the best day!
but still,
you're my hero,
I love you, and forever is a long time.
but dad,
you gave me more.

I was 5 years old,
I remember that cold windy day, I had my big coat on.
I hear your laugh, and look up with my biggest smile, as I run and run.
past the pumpkin patch, and the tractor, look the sky is gold!
I hug you, and sleep the rest of the way home!

but, do you know why all the leaves change in the fall?
but I know your not scared of anything anyway..
my mother must be the prettiest of them all!
but I know I had the best day with you today!

but I'm thirteen now and don't know how my friends can be so mean.
I run down that road crying and you open your arms, hugging me tight, grabbing those keys.
so we drive and drive until we got to this place far away.
we laugh and have fun, until I forgot all their names.

I have an excellent mother,
her strength is making me stronger.
God smiles down on my little brother,
everyone knows he's better than me.

but that day when I was waiting on the doorstep,
my big coat on,
you didn't come down that road,
I asked mum what was wrong?

I'm sixteen now,
I remember I grew up in a pretty house in the countryside and had a lot of space to run and run.
I watch a video I found back when I was three
it was a day when you came home with a small puppy,
I played and played until I fell asleep.
you put me to bed,
tucked me in and kissed my forehead.

I cried and cried
my mum came in and comforted me.
she is the prettiest lady in the whole wide world,
but i miss you dearly,
I wish you didn't have to go.

now i know why all the leaves change in the fall..
I know you were by my side when I was often wrong.
but I don't know if you knew
that I had the best day with you today....
