If There Ever Comes A Time
by John E. Scipione

I know you said not to call
I know you said not to write
You say you want to be left alone
So you can start to forget about that night
While I respect your wishes and don’t wish to cause more heartache
I had to remind you one last time before our final break
If there ever comes a time
When you can forgive but not forget
Remember all the good times and not just the tears
Remember when I held you and still could take away your fears
Remember when you laughed with me until it made us cry
Remember when we talked of growing old together till the day we died
Remember when it was to be forever….for better or for worse
Remember when there were no sharp words between us or a single curse
Remember when no obstacle was too big to overcome
Remember when we said “I do” and we knew that we were one
If there ever comes a time
When you can forgive but not forget
Give me a chance to be for you all the things you were for me
Give me a chance to be the hero you wanted me to be
Give me a chance to keep those promises made so long ago
Give me a chance to mend your heart and get back in your soul
I take nothing for granted only hoping for the best
For a chance to be the One again
Head and shoulders above the rest
So if there ever comes a time
When you can forgive but not forget
I’ll be waiting with a contrite heart and a million and one regrets
I can only pray you will forgive me and give us a new start
I’m Sorry over and over will never be enough
I’m here for you always if there ever comes a time….
