by Rita Baker
(Louisville, KY USA)
You hide amidst a haze
Formed by drinking and drugs
You feel safe because no one can follow
And find you in this maze
Sadly, though, you too, are lost.
Have you ever counted the cost?
Actions are usually sequential
Yours deny and defy your potential
Counseling may have made you “just fine”
But in your screwed up mind lay land mines
Places you dare not tread
Memories and feelings you have learned to dread
So it’s better to make them all dead
Caution lights have flared throughout your life
You see them and then act blind to the light
Repetitions repeated
Life depleted
As you continue to hide in the haze of the maze
