My child leaves on certain days
Uncertain whom to blame
To feel unloved was my own fate,
But now he feels the same.
He musters up and covers up,
Sorrow and anger hides,
Until he's home and he feels safe
To breakdown and confide.
He pours his heart, clenched fists and teeth,
Tears streaming down his face.
One little boy who tries so hard,
Life was not meant this way.
I hug him tight and wipe his cheeks
Stare at him for a while
To think I may have saved myself
But could not save my child.
