Night Wakes

by Kerry-ann Mansford
(UK)

Vespertine lashes
thicken supine,
amethyst dusk
greets,
twilight weeping,
the dark embrace
opens,
Night wakes

Sable eyes
enter inside,
waves blinking,
tying
protests deep,
soft submissions
tear bound

Her looking glass
glances cold,
before nostalgia
floating,
crystallized
half-cracked,
in violet rain
veiled walls,
retreating

Leaves flutter
thoughts,
left outside,
memories of
tomorrow
dreamt,
a jade light,
holding breath
against,
the hour

Morpheus calls you
my palms reach out,
shadowed seams
Erebus washes,
deeply, in between
I slip my ocean
into slumber’s hands,
now love,
in your embrace
opens,
my night sleeps
