When your child is born
You're filled with joy
Whether it be a girl or boy.
You doubt your ability
to be the parent they need,
They take small steps as they follow your lead.
Before you know it they're trying their wings
At a whole new life of school & things
You guide them as gently as you can
They're childhood just a flash in a pan
Watching every stumble they make
Sometimes it can be a bit much to take, But you have to for their sake.
You try to lead by example & give them what they need
All the while trying not to impede
Soon they are out of the nest
Now all you can do is hope for the best
Then as you sit alone, you ask yourself
Was I a good parent
Only time will tell
