Puccini

by Donna Roberts
(Essex, England)

Dulcet duet,
Swam through eager ear
First, a CRASHING shore
And then
Onto silken stream
Alone, I listened and watched
The flight of fireflies
In darkened, turbulent skies
And inhaled and e x h a l e d
My poison
Then silence...
A moment to reflect
A question came to mind;
Why is love only at its most beautiful
When it is unrequited -
Or when someone has to die?
