Shapeshifting

by Cynthia Sharp
(Vancouver, BC, Canada)

Sunset is pink
on the belly of the dragon
highlighting his majestic scales
as he emerges
from the murky purple water
of the swamp
magnificent
until the clouds reshape
and he dissolves
into curling puffs
of smoking breath
all that remain
of his splendor

Lovely word images
by: Barbara Ehrentreu

I loved this poem filled with the beautiful word pictures you always have in your poems. These were lovely word images and as I was reading the poem I did see the dragon. In fact, it was only after reading it to the end that I realized this was only cloud formations. Great work, Cynthia.

I loved this because as I read it I saw the dragon and then only after I read it did I realize this was a mirage made from the clouds at sunset. Lovely word images and as always your poetry has so many beautiful images. Always love reading your work!!!

Word pictures

Cynthia, I love the images you have used to tell your story. It reminded me a little of Pauline Johnson's "The lifting of the Mist". The word pictures are beautiful and evocative.
