by Emilee DeFrancesco
(Altoona, PA)
As I sat on the wooden fence
Thinking nothing of a menace
Drinking chocolate from my mug
A sweet song the wind had sung
My coat was as soft as fleece
Sluurrp!
My drink was all gone
I was not ready to be done
The leaves were confetti in the night sky
I watched them pass me by and by
The porch light clicked on and shot a bright beam
Scary, though, it must seem
The stars were pinpricks as I looked up
they seemed to say “What's up?”
I slid off the fence reluctantly
And walked to the tree very slowly
The day was over, at its end
To me it was a very good friend
Now I must go to bed in sorrow
I would not see the sun 'til tommorrow
