The Band (1987)

by Patrick Connors
(Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

The team is getting back together
For one day only, so let’s make it count
It’s gotten hard to find the time
Band of brothers though we are

To take a break from our daily routine
Necessities or simple diversions
Remember and appreciate the fact
We have and always will have true friendship

Lean on a shoulder without neediness
Trust and rely without expectation
Of anything more than we can offer
When fate allows us to come together

Yet as I am I’ll never understand
Why there is so much negotiation
Multiple contacts and hedging of bets
To spend some time, watch a game, share a meal

My friends, it isn’t 1987
And for that I certainly thank heaven
Now, the only times I hold those times dear
Are when we are near and have a few beers

If not the only one left in the band
All things being equal, this that we all wanted
Don’t let circumstances get out of hand
And never take each other for granted

Good Times
by: Gay Cannon

Good times and old friends and music. Food, drink and friendship. Nothing any better than that. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed your poem. Hope your gang reads it too. It's very special.
