The Fire Within

by Kayla Unger
(California)

Inspiration, that fire within
Can come in many ways
Experience you face
The good and bad
Will resound
It never strays

Warm feelings of love
Can bring life to a page
In times when feelings are gay
But the pages will crumble
Streaked with tears
When the love, it goes away

Malice comes and goes
It makes its mark
On every tattered page
Words intended for joy
They become twisted
Or warped in rage

When the flame's snuffed out
The words cease to flow
Contact cannot me made
Lost kindred spirits
They float on alone
Lost and scared they fade

Pick up the pen
And be a guide
Let it help get others through
The flame has never gone away
It lives inside of you
