by Ralph Randolph Sawyer
(Houston, Texas)
From a chest with lock and key
The great escape was soon to be
Found in smoke and found in fire
Bound with ropes and binding attire
The happy little clown now had been
Good to all to all a friend
He got out of the chest somehow
In a cloud of smoke that billows now
And where the old chest had been
Appears the clown as he ascends
Into a crowd of laughing folk
It seems it all had been a joke
The laughing clown seemed all too gay
This was only child’s play
