by Parrish Lantern
(Canterbury, England)
All lay before us
like a blanket spread
on a village green
All lay before us
as fruit from the orchard
warm and ripe
All lay before us
seen from the harbour
of safe loving arms
All lay before us
two steps from safety
one from hope
All lay before us
and in that view
a future born
All lay before us
will lay before us
shall lay before us
Till our time is done.
